If you're like me, who likes visually appealing things, places with personality and eye-catching murals, you will love a stroll at Haji Lane. It's about a five-minute walk away from Bugis MRT, and just a stone's throw away from Raffles Hospital.
From its name Haji Lane, I expected it to be about half the size of a regular street. I didn't expect it to be even smaller. It was indeed just a "lane", more like an alley that only motorcycles or bikes can pass through, but normally you'll just see people.
Rain was not helping our little excursion, especially that I brought two cameras, finding it such a hassle to switch taking pictures with my mobile phone plus holding an umbrella with the other hand. It wasn't very convenient but thankfully my friends were very patient with with me. I really do need a camera that can do everything and can fit in a small bag, and a waterproof one would be great.
There are so much more graffiti and adorable shops and houses to see along Haji Lane but time and weather did not permit my friends and I to explore more. After some 20-30 minutes of being tourists and doing touristy things, we decided to grab dinner at I Am Cafe. They serve western food like burgers, pizza and the like and is famous for their rainbow cake, which I have yet to try. In a few weeks, maybe I'll go back and see more of what else is there.
It was a wonderful time to catch up with a high school batch mate Michelle, who I haven't seen in more than ten years! And also good to hang-out with Chao and Louie again.
Below are pictures, shot with a Fuji compact, an iPhone 4s and a dslr. I trust you'll know the difference. Special thanks to Louie for snapping our pictures and the nice looking photos of our satisfying dinner. I feel hungry seeing them again!
