Look at Nom

Dumaguete is growing so much especially in terms of new places to eat! I recently had the opportunity to take photos of this lovely new place just beside the popular backpacking hostel, The Flying Fish.

Nom has a great interior combining industrial with wooden elements. There are indoor plants both by the doors and windows as well as on the individual tables. There is a nice and big round-shaped mirror near the main door which I really like; a unique touch. Native rugs. Plant baskets. 

In the morning, the sun bathes the place with lovely warm sunshine that's just perfect with coffee and croissant. All you need for a great Instagram photo, I promise!

The place serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, coffee, drinks for happy hour and evening gatherings. They serve a number of healthy options for vegans and vegetarians and sweet fruity bowls they call as "Nom bowls." Great to look at and even better to eat! You can hear yourself say "nom nom nom" while you enjoy the sweetness of fresh fruit in your mouth.

They care for the environment so they use nothing disposable as much as possible. Food to takeout is ok for a minimal fee for the container (also not plastic). Wine bottles are used for service water which is great. It's something other food places have also been doing but it's great to know more are doing the same.

Something that I really appreciated here is how they allowed the tree to stay in the middle of it. Great design in adding a short concrete bench there. Win win. No trees were harmed and it even added a cute spot for short meet-ups.

When you're in town. Be sure to go here, I highly recommend. They are open everyday except Mondays from 7am -3pm and 5pm - 10pm.

Bricks Hotel Murals

I'm automatically drawn to murals so this is mainly the reason I came to Bricks Hotel located along Rizal Boulevard just opposite the "Tempurahan" area. It occupies the old CAP building. They retained the structure but changed the interior into this New York City loft type of theme, which I also really liked. It looks semi-industrial, something that's becoming a trend in local shops. Lighting was nice and warm. There were about 3 to 4 murals on the ground level where you'll find the restaurant and reception area.

My friend and I tried out some food at the resto. Not the best in my opinion. They have only one type of coffee which was a bummer. I'd wish they had a few more options because they had nice light coming in from the outside, so coffee would be the best thing to order if you're not looking for a heavy meal.

Hungry Bites Dumaguete

This is a newly-opened burger joint along Laguna road in Dumaguete. Hungry Bites serves burgers at affordable prices. They have fried chicken which is also good. The space is quite small but the interior is cute with some wall decorations and wooden tables and chairs. The order counter opens on the outside which can serve as takeout counter anytime they decide to close ahead the dining area.

It's worth checking out if you're in the area.

Chapters Dumaguete

Chapters cafe recently opened in Dumaguete. It's a themed-cafe based on the concept of books. The interior is lovely and so full of decors pertaining to Alice in Wonderland and The Little Prince. The walls are murals of popular world destinations and even has ceiling decor. It's the perfect place for those who love photoshoots and instagrammable shots.

I have only been here twice so I have not gotten to know most of their food. But so far, I would say food is good, big servings, average price and friendly staff.

The French Connection

My sister and I purposely laid out our day's schedule to accommodate a visit at this French-feel restaurant or cafe in Cebu City. I expected much from this place seeing that so many of the people I know always seem to have a photo taken here having wine and croissants. I admit I was about half-disappointed when I finally went there. But I have long promised not to say negative things about anything I write in this blog, so I will tell you what I like about the place instead.

To describe this place in a few words, it's French and it's pretty (although the sakura decor reminds me a lot of Japan). But they sell French macarons and croissants, bread and pastry and wine so French it is.

Most of the pictures I've seen taken here were all night shots. I was glad my sister asked to go here during the day because for some period of time while we were there, it actually looked very romantic during late afternoon. There are countless archs from the woven furniture that gives you a lot of photo ideas and those pink blossoms, albeit fake, still look very appealing, in real life and in pictures. We didn't order wine and croissants. I ate a few pieces of French macarons because I was there for the pictures, and I won't deny it, no. And I went there to see what the hype was all about.
